New Domain Name Scams
2005-09-26As the unethical domain name registration companies continue to try and recruit new customers, their methods have become even more intrusive. As we mentioned in an earlier article, domain scams from companies like Domain Registry of America and Liberty Domains have increased in volume over the past few years, and usually take the form of an advertisement that, to the unsuspecting recipient, looks like an invoice for domain name renewal. Today we received a new form of solicitation from Domain Registry of America. They are now calling the domain contact for all domains asking to verify the contact information for your domain. Shortly after, they attempt to get the domain owner to transfer to them by claiming you need to renew your domain name. Today alone we have received two calls for separate domains, so we can only assume they will be targeting our other subscribers in the near future.
If you receive a renewal notice or an E-mail confirmation of your domain contact information that is from any company or person besides Davanti Studios, please disregard this immediately. Unfortunately we have no better way to fight these solicitations than to pass the news on to you. Please call us if you think you may have been the victim of one of these scams.
